Born in Melbourne , Australia , of Greek/Italian background, Tenor Costa Di Angelo first started studying classical guitar at the age of 14 and by the age of 16 had already appeared on national television and won a major talent quest. But his true passion was singing, and this led to singing lessons with the reputable Dianna Dubarry. Although Costa was only 16, Dubarry realised immediately that the teenager possessed an outstanding natural tenor voice complete throughout its entire range and capable of singing not only popular songs, but also the operatic repertoire.
By the age of 18 Costa was taking voice lessons, as well as piano, music theory, and composition, both privately and at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. Later he attended the College of the Arts, working his way through, and singing in various concerts and operetta performances.
Realising he had progressed as much as he could in his native country, Costa decided it was time to perfect himself and continue his vocal studies in Italy where he worked with the renowned maestro Antonio Moretti-Pananti in Florence, at the same time singing in numerous concerts, to great acclaim.
Back in Melbourne, to sing at the Spoleto Festival , Costa was heard by visiting guest professor of singing Andre Orlowitz, who commented he had never heard such a marvellous instinct for singing and invited him to take part in international master classes in Copenhagen, and at the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Weimar, Germany, where he was awarded a singing scholarship.
While singing in Vienna , Costa met Franco Corelli and seized the opportunity to attend master classes with the great tenor and, more importantly, take private lessons with him. Corelli was greatly impressed with Costa's natural tenor voice. He called him a young Di Stefano and predicted a brilliant future for him.
Back in Copenhagen Costa started to work on his operatic repertoire with maestro and operatic coach Ove Kruger. There followed concerts, opera, and recitals throughout Europe, gaining invaluable experience, in Poland , Germany , Denmark , Sweden , Austria and Italy . Costa was the first operatic artist to perform in Greenland for a special International Christmas concert inside the Arctic Circle , which was both televised and released on CD. During this period, after hearing him in a concert/master class in Malmo , Sweden , the great Swedish soprano Birgit Nilsson was unstinting in her praise, commenting on Costa's "beautiful tenor voice"
In 2000 Costa performed with great success in the International Tenor Festival in Szczecin , and was subsequently invited to sing the part of Rodolfo in La Boheme. More recently he was invited back to Poland to sing his first Verdi Requiem with maestro Kawalla and soloists from the Warsaw National Opera. Following that, he sang in a gala concert with the Opolska Philharmonic, with maestro Boguslaw Davidov conducting and Monica Chabros, leading soprano of the Warsaw opera in arias and duets from Macbeth, Rigoletto, Tosca, and Madama Butterfly.
Then came an invitation to sing as special guest in a prestigious Gala Concert in Copenhagen hosted by Ernst & Young for the Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.
This gifted tenor continues to add accolades to his already impressive career and is well on his way to establish himself as one of the truly great voices of our time.
